Evil People's Lives Are Like Paths Covered With Thorns and Traps

Their Feet Will Be Caught in a Net When They Walk Into Its Web

Job 5:9 "God does wonders that cannot be understood; he does so many miracles they cannot be counted.
10 He gives rain to the earth and sends water on the fields.
11 He makes the humble person important and lifts the sad to places of safety.
12 He ruins the plans of those who trick others so they have no success.
13 He catches the wise in their own clever traps and sweeps away the plans of those who try to trick others.
14 Darkness covers them up in the daytime; even at noon they feel around in the dark.
15 God saves the needy from their lies and from the harm done by powerful people.
16 So the poor have hope, while those who are unfair are silenced." (NCV™)

Job 18:5 "The lamp of the wicked will be put out, and the flame in their lamps will stop burning.
6 The light in their tents will grow dark, and the lamps by their sides will go out.
7 Their strong steps will grow weak; they will fall into their own evil traps.
8 Their feet will be caught in a net when they walk into its web.
9 A trap will catch them by the heel and hold them tight.
10 A trap for them is hidden on the ground, right in their path." (NCV™)

Psalms 7:11 God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.
12 If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and strung his bow;
13 he has prepared his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, the wicked man conceives evil, and is pregnant with mischief, and brings forth lies.
15 He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole which he has made [NCV™: They dig a hole to trap others, but they will fall into it themselves; GNT: But in the traps they set for others, they themselves get caught].
16 His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own pate his violence descends.
17 I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. (RSV)

Psalms 9:15 The heathen have dug a pit and fallen in; they have been caught in their own trap [KJV: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken].

Psalms 35:7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

Psalms 35:7 Without any reason they laid a trap for me and dug a deep hole to catch me.
8 But destruction will catch them before they know it; they will be caught in their own trap and fall to their destruction!
9 Then I will be glad because of the LORD; I will be happy because he saved me.
10 With all my heart I will say to the LORD, "There is no one like you. You protect the weak from the strong, the poor from the oppressor." (GNT)

5 God is supreme over the skies; his majesty covers the earth.
6 They set a trap for me [KJV: They have prepared a net for my steps]. I am very worried. They dug a pit in my path, but they fell into it themselves.
7 My heart is steady, God; my heart is steady. I will sing and praise you. (NCV™)

Psalms 69:16 Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
17 And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
18 Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.
19 Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.
20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
21 They gave me also gall for my meat [NCV™: They put poison in my food; Moffatt: For food men hand me poisonous drugs]; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
22 Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
23 Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.
24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
25 Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

Proverbs 7:6 At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice.
7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment.
8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house
9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.
10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
Proverbs 7:21 With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.
22 All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
23 till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life. (NIV)

26 And I found that [of all sinful follies none has been so ruinous in seducing one away from God as idolatrous women] more bitter than death is the woman whose heart is snares and nets and whose hands are bands. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her. (AMP)

Ecclesiastes 9:12 Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them. (NIV)

43 Fear, deep pits, and traps wait for you, people of Moab," says the LORD.
44 "People will run from fear, but they will fall into the pits. Anyone who climbs out of the pits will be caught in the traps. I will bring the year of punishment to Moab," says the LORD. (NCV™)

Jeremiah 50:24 I set a trap for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it; you were found and captured because you opposed the LORD.
